• Goods for personal use are free of customs duties and taxes within the quantity, weight and value limits set by the Government of Tajikistan. Goods above these limits must be declared and are charged duties and taxes at unified rates.
• Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products can be brought in duty-free only within the quantity limits set by the Government.
• Foreign visitors may temporarily bring in items for their own use during their stay free of duties and taxes; these items must be taken out again on departure.
• Travelers with nothing to declare in writing may use the specially marked lane for travelers with no goods to declare, where available. Unaccompanied baggage, vehicles, restricted goods and goods above the duty-free limits must be declared in writing or electronically.
Currency
• There is no limit on the amount of foreign or Tajik currency you can bring in. Declare larger amounts in writing on arrival and keep the declaration until you leave: non-residents need it (or bank exchange or money transfer receipts) to take out more than USD 3,000.
Prohibited
• Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (except medicines that meet the rules below)
• Pornographic material and material promoting war, terrorism, extremism, violence, racism, or national, social or religious hatred
• Cultural items that are listed as wanted, are the subject of a court dispute or were acquired illegally
Restricted
• Firearms and ammunition need a permit and must be declared.
• Drones may be possessed or used only with permission from the State Committee for National Security; otherwise they can be confiscated.
• Medicines: carry a copy of your prescription. Some prescription medicines may be illegal in Tajikistan, so check with the Tajik embassy before you travel.
• Animals, plants, seeds and food of animal or plant origin are subject to veterinary, phytosanitary and sanitary control at the border; check the requirements with the Tajik embassy before you travel.
• Endangered species of animals and plants and products made from them (CITES) need a permit.
• Cultural values (such as antiques and works of art) are free of duties and taxes only if they are declared in writing and registered on arrival.
