Free import
• Allowances apply once a month per traveler, to goods in personal baggage for personal or family use (not for sale).
• For travelers aged 18 or older: 20 cigarettes or 10 cigarillos or 10 cigars or 250 g of smoking tobacco.
• For travelers aged 18 or older: 1 L of spirits and 2.25 L of wine.
• 100 ml of perfume or 250 ml of eau de toilette.
• Medicines in reasonable quantities for personal use.
• Other goods worth up to MZN 20,000.
• Used personal belongings of visitors on a tourist or business trip, such as clothing, books, laptops, cameras and other portable devices, in reasonable quantities.
Currency
• There is no limit on the amount of foreign currency you may bring in, but foreign cash over USD 10,000 (or the equivalent) must be declared to customs on arrival, with proof that you obtained the money legally.
• Mozambican meticais (MZN) over MZN 10,000 must be declared to customs.
• Cash and bearer instruments (such as traveler's cheques) that are not declared or are falsely declared may be seized.
Prohibited
• Narcotics and psychotropic substances (except for hospital use)
• Counterfeit goods, including pirated books, music and films
• Pornographic material and other material considered offensive to public morals
• Medicines and foodstuffs harmful to public health
• Distilled spirits containing harmful substances, such as absinthe
• Imitations of Mozambican postage stamps
Restricted
• Firearms, ammunition, explosives and fireworks need prior authorization from the Ministry of the Interior. Do not travel with a firearm without it.
• Live animals (including pets), animal products and animal remains need an import licence and veterinary certificates from the veterinary services of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries.
• Plants, seeds, fruit, bulbs, honey and other agricultural products are subject to phytosanitary inspection before clearance; an import licence and a phytosanitary certificate are required.
• Medicines beyond personal-use quantities need authorization from the health (or veterinary) services.
• Used clothing must be accompanied by a fumigation certificate.
• Gold, silver and platinum in coins, bars or ingots may be imported only by the Banco de Moçambique.
• Goods above the allowances must be declared; duty is charged on the amount over the allowance. Undeclared goods may be seized and fined. The traveler declaration can be completed online in advance on the e-Viajante portal.
