Free import
• For travelers aged 18 or older: 200 cigarettes and 1 bottle of spirits of up to 1 L.
• Personal gifts with no commercial character, worth up to JOD 200 in total.
• Used personal items brought for your own use: video camera, photo camera, mobile phone, laptop and the hand tools of maintenance technicians. New TV sets, video players, satellite receivers, fax machines, video cameras and telephones are not duty-free.
Currency
• Cash and bearer negotiable instruments (such as cheques and money orders) worth more than JOD 10,000 in total (or the equivalent in foreign currency) must be declared to customs on arrival on the official form.
• Customs may ask about the source and purpose of the money. Undeclared or falsely declared cash can be seized and referred to the public prosecutor.
Prohibited
• Narcotics and toxic substances
• Weapons and ammunition, unless approved in advance by the Jordanian authorities
• Pornographic and immoral material
Restricted
• Drones (including remote-controlled model aircraft) need prior approval from the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC). Apply at least 10 working days before you travel; without a permit the drone is held at the airport and can be collected when you leave Jordan.
• Live animals, animal products (including meat and dairy), plants and plant products need an import licence from the Ministry of Agriculture. Livestock products from Egypt may not be brought in without Ministry of Agriculture permission. Check the requirements for pets with the Ministry before you travel.
• Antiquities may be brought into Jordan for re-export (including in transit) only with written proof that you hold them legally.
• You must declare on arrival: more than 200 cigarettes, more than 1 L of alcohol, goods for commercial use or worth more than JOD 200 (including perfume, cologne and lotion), and electronic, communication or broadcasting devices. Goods above the allowances are charged customs duty and sales tax.
