Traffic lanes reopen at Prague Airport as week-long crane works finish
Drivers picking up or dropping off passengers at Václav Havel Airport received good news on 26 October as the airport fully reopened access roads in front of Terminal 1. The first-lane closure and bus-stop relocations, imposed on 21 October to dismantle a construction crane, ended at 18:00 local time Sunday, restoring normal traffic patterns ahead of the Monday morning rush.

During the five-day project, public buses and ride-hailing services were rerouted to makeshift stops under the Aviatická Street overpass, and Airport Express coaches boarded at Terminal 2. Although passenger volumes were moderate, corporate shuttle operators reported journey-time increases of up to 15 minutes during evening peaks.

Airport management used the disruption as a dry-run for larger works planned in 2026, when a new multimodal forecourt will consolidate bus, taxi and future rail links. Lessons learned include the need for clearer English-language signage and better integration of detour information in navigation apps—a frequent complaint from expatriate residents and visiting executives.

With the winter flight schedule now in effect, the timely completion of the crane removal prevents an operational bottleneck during one of the airport’s busiest outbound weeks. Mobility coordinators can revert to normal pick-up protocols, though the airport advises monitoring its website for short-notice maintenance alerts.
