The Embassy of Moldova in Warsaw issued a travel alert on 22 October 2025 confirming that Poland has suspended operations at multiple secondary road and pedestrian crossings on its northeastern borders with Russia’s Kaliningrad region and with Belarus. The measure, in force since 12 September but now extended, affects road posts at Gronowo, Gołdap, Połowce, Sławatycze, Kuźnica and Bobrowniki, as well as the Białowieża and Rudawka pedestrian points and selected rail links.
Warsaw says the closures are precautionary while Border Guard and military engineers install enhanced surveillance systems and reinforce fencing in response to what officials describe as an ‘ongoing hybrid-migration threat’ orchestrated from Minsk and Moscow. Primary transit arteries—particularly the Kuźnica–Bruzhi truck corridor—remain open but with intensified checks, leading to average wait times of four to six hours for freight.
Companies moving staff or cargo to Baltic markets via Poland should reroute through the main Koroszczyn/Kukuryki terminal on the A2 motorway or use intermodal rail through Małaszewicze. Travel managers should also brief employees on the need to carry additional identification, as spot checks have increased within a 15 km strip behind the frontier.
EU officials in Brussels expressed concern about Schengen-zone fragmentation but acknowledged Poland’s right to act under Article 25 of the Schengen Borders Code in exceptional circumstances. The suspension will be reviewed again in mid-December.
