Geneva Airport and SBB Run Extra Night Trains for Autumn Holiday Peak, Including 24–25 October
To help passengers catch early-morning departures at Geneva Airport during Switzerland’s autumn-holiday rush, Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and Genève Aéroport are operating special “Early-Bird” and return night trains on four consecutive Friday–Saturday nights: 3–4, 10–11, 17–18 and 24–25 October 2025.

From Biel/Bienne, Neuchâtel, Fribourg and Sion, services depart between 02:20 and 03:09, arriving at the airport before 04:30—well in time for first wave flights between 06:00 and 08:00. Return trains leave the airport shortly after midnight for travellers landing on late inbound services, reaching Valais and Fribourg before 03:00.

The initiative supports Geneva’s goal of shifting 50 % of passenger access trips to public transport by 2030 and reduces reliance on private cars or expensive pre-flight hotel stays. It also dovetails with SWISS and easyJet capacity increases during the school-holiday period, when ski tour operators and business travellers alike face higher taxi demand and congested highways around the airport.

For multinational firms in Romandie, the overnight trains provide a reliable option to deploy staff on red-eye flights without incurring extra accommodation costs. Employers can book group tickets through SBB’s Business Travel portal; integrated rail-and-flight itineraries automatically populate in the company’s online booking tools, making duty-of-care tracking easier.

SBB and the airport authority will evaluate load factors after the holiday period to decide whether to institutionalise the service for future peak dates such as Christmas and the Geneva Motor Show.
