Partial closure of Sheikha Salama Bint Butti Road may impact Al Dhafra business travel
Abu Dhabi Mobility announced maintenance works that will partially close intersections along Sheikha Salama Bint Butti (E45) Road in Madinat Zayed from the evening of 23 October through 24 October 2025. Although localised, the route is a key artery for oil-and-gas contractors moving between Al Dhafra field camps and Abu Dhabi city.

Traffic will be funnelled into single-lane sections, and heavy vehicles will be re-routed via the E11 coastal highway. Project logistics teams have been advised to reschedule movements of oversized loads outside peak hours and to notify suppliers of potential delays of up to 45 minutes.

The maintenance is part of a wider AED 1.2 billion upgrade programme aimed at improving desert-region connectivity before COP29 delegates arrive in 2026. While Abu Dhabi International Airport lies 150 km east of the works, inbound passengers heading to Ruwais or Liwa should expect longer transfer times.

For HR and mobility managers, the closure may affect airport-meet-and-greet SLAs and could trigger overtime claims for drivers. Companies should update assignment letters and per-diem policies accordingly and remind staff to use approved alternative routes flagged on the TAMM mobile app.

Authorities say normal traffic flow will resume by dawn on 25 October, barring unforeseen weather setbacks.
