Avenue Louise roadworks force detours for Brussels bus lines 54 & 96

Avenue Louise roadworks force detours for Brussels bus lines 54 & 96
Commuters along Brussels’ chic Avenue Louise corridor face a 10-day disruption after STIB-MIVB confirmed on 23 October that roadworks at the Baljuw/Bailli intersection will divert buses 54 (Trône – Forest) and temporary line 96 (Neerstalle – Flagey) from 25 October to 4 November.

North-bound services toward Trône and Flagey will reroute via Chaussée de Waterloo, skipping the busy Janson and Defacqz stops; temporary stops Washington and Van Eyck will substitute. South-bound journeys are unaffected, and tram lines 8 and 93 continue to run.

Impact: Avenue Louise hosts numerous multinational headquarters and serviced-apartment blocks popular with new assignees. Mobility managers should update shuttle routes and inform employees of longer travel times during peak hours. Taxi drivers predict a spill-over of traffic into Ixelles side streets, potentially adding 10-15 minutes to airport transfers.

STIB advises passengers to consult real-time data and leave earlier, particularly on Monday 27 October when works coincide with EU Council traffic restrictions nearby. The operator says the upgrades will modernise sewer connections and prepare the avenue for a 2026 dedicated cycle lane.
