Free import
• For travelers aged 18 or older: 200 cigarettes or 200 g of cigars or tobacco, or a combination not exceeding 200 g. E-cigarettes: up to 200 ml.
• For travelers aged 18 or older: 3 L of spirits or 4.5 L of wine or 4.5 L of beer, or a combination not exceeding this total.
• Alcohol and tobacco must be carried by the traveler and must not be for sale or brought on behalf of others.
• Personal effects owned and used before arrival, for personal use and normally carried in baggage (commercial quantities of clothing or footwear are not included).
• Other goods for personal use (not for sale or as gifts) accompanying the traveler, up to a total value of FJD 2,000.
• Goods above these allowances, commercial goods, samples and professional equipment are subject to customs duty, VAT and, where applicable, excise duty. Duty must be paid in Fijian dollars; unpaid goods are detained. Keep receipts for all purchases.
Currency
• There is no limit on the amount of money you may bring in.
• Cash and negotiable bearer instruments (cheques, traveller's cheques, money orders, promissory notes, bearer bonds) totalling FJD 10,000 or more, or the equivalent in foreign currency, must be declared on arrival: tick "Yes" on the Passenger Arrival Card and complete a Border Currency Reporting Form at the customs counter. Undeclared currency may be seized and the traveler prosecuted.
Prohibited
• Illegal drugs, including cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, opium and LSD
• Drug utensils such as bongs, hash pipes, hookahs, roach clips and opium pipes
• Chewing tobacco
• Flick knives, swordsticks, knuckle-dusters and any item disguised as another object but intended as a weapon
• Dogs of the following breeds and their crosses: Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, pit bull terriers (including American pit bull terriers); serval cats and serval hybrids (up to 5 generations)
• Cats and dogs under 4 months of age, and females more than 21 days pregnant at the time of export to Fiji
Restricted
• Firearms need an import permit from the Fiji Police Force. Declare all firearms and weapons to a customs officer on arrival, even if you hold a licence.
• Prescription and controlled medicines must be for your personal medical use and carried with a doctor's prescription.
• Radio transmitters and other telecommunications equipment need an import permit from the Telecommunications Authority of Fiji.
• Items made from endangered species (for example jewelry, carvings or feathers) may need a CITES permit. Whale's teeth (tabua) need a permit from the iTaukei Affairs Board or the Department of Environment and are detained without one.
• All biosecurity risk goods must be declared on the Passenger Arrival Card or left in the amnesty bins at the airport: food of any kind, plants and plant products (fruit, seeds, flowers, wood, wooden carvings and mats), animals and animal products (meat, dairy, fish, eggs, honey, feathers, shells, pet food), biological specimens, soil, and used equipment such as tents, camping gear, bicycles, golf clubs and used sports shoes. Baggage is screened and may be inspected.
• Failing to declare biosecurity items carries a spot fine of FJD 400 or prosecution with a fine of up to FJD 20,000, up to 6 months in prison, or both.
• Some animal products (such as cheese, butter, chilled or canned meat) may be brought from Australia and New Zealand only, for personal use, up to 10 kg in total, with the shop receipts. Other plant and animal products need an import permit from the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF).
• Cats and dogs need a BAF import permit (apply to [email protected]; the permit is valid for 6 months), an ISO-compatible microchip, and a booking at the BAF Post Entry Quarantine station at Koronivia at least 6-8 weeks before departure. Quarantine lasts at least 7 days for pets from Australia, New Zealand and most Pacific Island countries, and at least 30 days for pets from other approved countries (including the USA, Canada, the UK, EU countries and Japan). Pets from these other countries also need a rabies vaccination at least 30 days before export and a rabies antibody test (at least 0.5 IU/ml) taken 180 to 365 days before export. Pets from countries not on BAF's approved list cannot be imported directly.
• Other live animals, including birds, have no standard import pathway: BAF currently allows only cats and dogs as pets. Contact BAF before travelling with any other animal. Pets on yachts must stay on board under a BAF bond.
