• From another EU country: no limits on goods for personal use. Above these guide levels customs may ask you to show that tobacco and alcohol are for your own use: 800 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos, 200 cigars, 1 kg of smoking tobacco, 10 L of spirits, 20 L of fortified wine and other alcoholic beverages up to 22%, 90 L of wine (of which no more than 60 L sparkling wine) and 110 L of beer.
• From a non-EU country, for travelers aged 17 or older arriving by air: 200 cigarettes or 100 cigarillos or 50 cigars or 250 g of smoking tobacco.
• From a non-EU country, for travelers aged 17 or older arriving by land or sea: 40 cigarettes or 20 cigarillos or 10 cigars or 50 g of smoking tobacco.
• From a non-EU country, for travelers aged 17 or older: 1 L of spirits over 22% alcohol or 2 L of alcoholic beverages up to 22% alcohol, plus 4 L of still wine and 16 L of beer; also 50 g of heated tobacco products and 10 ml of e-liquid.
• From a non-EU country: other goods for personal use or gifts up to EUR 430 per traveler arriving by air or sea, EUR 300 per traveler arriving by land, and EUR 150 for travelers under 15. The value of a single item cannot be split.
• Fuel in the standard tank of a vehicle plus up to 10 L in a portable container.
Currency
• Croatia's currency has been the euro since 1 January 2023. Old kuna banknotes can still be exchanged at the Croatian National Bank (HNB) with no time limit; kuna coins can no longer be exchanged.
• Travelers entering Croatia from a non-EU country must declare cash of EUR 10,000 or more (or the equivalent in other currencies) to customs. Cash includes banknotes, coins, bearer instruments such as traveler's cheques, gold coins (at least 90% gold) and gold bars (at least 99.5% gold).
• When arriving from another EU country, travelers must declare cash of EUR 10,000 or more if asked by customs or the border police.
Prohibited
• Meat, milk and products made from them from non-EU countries (limited exceptions apply, for example for powdered infant milk, infant food and special medical food)
• Tobacco and alcohol above 800 cigarettes, 400 cigarillos, 200 cigars, 1 kg of smoking tobacco, 10 L of spirits, 20 L of other alcoholic beverages up to 22%, 90 L of wine or 110 L of beer per traveler from a non-EU country, even if duty is paid
• Bull terrier type dogs (Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, Miniature Bull Terrier) without a pedigree from an FCI-member kennel club, and their crossbreeds; they may not enter or transit Croatia
Restricted
• Tobacco and alcohol above the duty-free allowances (up to the limits above) must be declared and duties paid.
• Other food of animal origin from non-EU countries: up to 2 kg of powdered infant milk, infant food or special medical food, up to 2 kg of honey, and fish and fishery products in amounts for personal consumption. Products that do not meet the rules are confiscated, and failing to declare them is fined.
• Plants, fruit, vegetables, cut flowers and seeds from non-EU countries need a phytosanitary (plant health) certificate.
• Endangered species of plants and animals and products made from them (CITES), such as ivory, coral, reptile skins and some woods, need CITES permits.
• Medicines for personal use: up to one month's supply with medical documentation (such as a doctor's certificate). Medicines containing narcotics: up to 5 days' supply (15 days for substitution therapy or cancer treatment) with a copy of the prescription or a doctor's certificate.
• Pets (dogs, cats, ferrets) need a microchip, a rabies vaccination given at 12 weeks of age or older and at least 21 days before travel, and an EU pet passport or, from a non-EU country, an official EU animal health certificate issued no more than 10 days before arrival, plus a written declaration that the trip is non-commercial. From most non-EU countries a rabies antibody (titer) test is also required, at least 3 months before travel; it is not needed from listed countries such as the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia and Japan. No more than 5 pets per traveler. Pet birds from non-EU countries may enter only at border crossings with a border veterinary post.
• Firearms and ammunition may be brought only for hunting or target shooting and must be declared to the border police and customs at an international border crossing. Residents of non-EU countries need their home firearms licence; the weapons are entered in the passport by a Croatian embassy or consulate, or by the border police on arrival. For hunting, the limit is 3 firearms, 500 cartridges for smooth-bore guns and 100 rounds for rifles. EU residents need a European Firearms Pass (and a prior police authorisation for more than 3 firearms).
