UKVI Updates Register of Licensed Student Sponsors, Signalling Compliance Tightening
The Home Office published the latest version of its Register of Student Sponsors on 24 October, adding and removing institutions based on compliance audits. While largely aimed at the education sector, the list is a barometer of UKVI’s enforcement posture and can indirectly affect corporate mobility where dependants study or where companies sponsor staff for part-time courses.

Several private colleges lost their ‘A-rating’, meaning they can no longer issue Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). Conversely, five universities gained licences to sponsor Child Student routes, expanding options for expatriate families. UKVI reminded institutions that failure to report non-attendance within 10 days can trigger licence revocation.

For multinational employers offering tuition-assistance benefits, verifying that an institution remains on the register is essential before reimbursing fees or facilitating student-dependent visas. The update also feeds into Global Talent and Skilled Worker routes, which sometimes rely on relationships with academia for endorsement letters.

Mobility teams should integrate the CSV file into due-diligence workflows and monitor mid-term updates—revocations can happen at any time, jeopardising current student-visa holders.

The refreshed register underscores UKVI’s message: continued sponsor status hinges on rigorous monitoring and reporting, aligning with broader efforts to curb abuse while keeping legitimate study pathways attractive.
