Twenty-three arrested, two officers injured in second night of Dublin disorder
Euronews confirmed on 23 October that Gardaí arrested 23 people and hospitalised two officers following a second night of clashes outside the Citywest asylum-seeker accommodation. According to a police statement, more than 300 personnel – including 120 public-order specialists – were deployed after bottles, bricks and fireworks were hurled at the cordon.

The violence prompted Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan to instruct An Garda Síochána to fast-track evidence gathering so that suspects could be charged within 24 hours. Five men appeared before Dublin District Court on Thursday morning; bail was refused for three who faced violent-disorder counts carrying potential 10-year sentences.

Business-travel risk consultants note that the Citywest campus lies just 30 minutes from the M50 ring road and is a frequent venue for conferences and corporate training events. Several multinationals cancelled meetings at adjacent facilities this week, citing both safety and reputational concerns.

The incident also disrupted local transport: Luas Red Line trams were suspended between Belgard and Saggart, and private coach operators re-routed airport shuttles. Organisations moving staff through Dublin are being urged to build extra time into itineraries and maintain real-time contact with drivers.
