Free import
• Personal effects for your own use, provided you take them with you when you leave.
• Each time you arrive from abroad, for your own personal use and not for resale: up to 200 cigarettes; up to 1 lb (about 450 g) of tobacco or 20 cigars; up to 1.5 L (52 fl oz) of distilled alcoholic beverages (spirits).
• Other goods up to USD 200 in value per trip (tobacco, beer, spirits and wine are not included in this amount). Beer and wine have no duty-free allowance.
• Tobacco and alcohol are duty free only if you are old enough to possess them under the law of the FSM state you arrive in.
Currency
• The currency of the Federated States of Micronesia is the US dollar. ATMs are limited; most hotels accept credit cards.
• Customs officers may seize and detain cash brought into or taken out of the country if they suspect it comes from, or is intended for, a serious crime.
Prohibited
• Illegal drugs and other controlled substances.
• Weapons, including firearms, ammunition, firearm silencers and dangerous devices such as explosives, switchblade knives, daggers and knuckle-dusters. Visitors may not bring them in without an identification card issued under the FSM Weapons Control Act; anything carried must be handed over to the authorities on arrival and is returned when you leave.
• Endangered or threatened species of plants and animals listed by CITES, and their parts.
Restricted
• Declare to customs all goods that are subject to duty or may be prohibited. Goods whose import is restricted by FSM or state law need a valid import permit or licence.
• Plants and animals need prior approval before entry, and animals must be quarantined. Exotic plants and animals not already found in the FSM need a permit.
• Animals, plants and plant parts (including seeds, fruits and vegetables) and your baggage may be inspected by agricultural quarantine inspectors. Items brought in against quarantine rules are seized and destroyed, sent out of the country or returned at your expense.
• Each state airport has its own customs, immigration and quarantine checks, including on domestic flights between FSM states. Visitors without an entry permit fill in a Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) form on arrival.
