IRCC issues 6,000 invitations in French-language Express Entry draw
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has capped a frenetic week of selections with its third—and largest—category-based Express Entry draw in October, inviting 6,000 French-speaking candidates to apply for permanent residence.

Held on October 29, 2025, round #376 required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 416—16 points lower than the previous French-language draw—demonstrating the government’s drive to accelerate francophone immigration outside Quebec. The tie-breaking time stamp was set at September 8, 2025 (15:27 UTC).

The draw brings the year-to-date total to 81,485 Invitations to Apply (ITAs), of which fully 36,000 have gone to francophone candidates. Ottawa’s strategy aligns with its modernized Official Languages Act, which obliges Ottawa to increase the demographic weight of French minorities across Canada. By targeting French speakers with lower CRS cut-offs, IRCC is effectively widening the talent funnel just days before Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government tables the 2026-2028 Immigration Levels Plan on November 1.

For employers, the draw signals that French-speaking talent pools will remain well stocked—particularly valuable for provinces such as Ontario, New Brunswick and Manitoba that have set aggressive francophone targets in their Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Candidates should expect heightened competition in subsequent category-specific rounds as Ottawa works toward meeting an 8.5 % francophone admissions target for 2025.

Practical tip: candidates who meet the minimum NCLC 7 French requirement but sit below today’s 416 CRS cut-off can still benefit from up-to-date language test results and provincial francophone streams, which often add 600 CRS points via a nomination certificate.
