Heathrow Terminal Switches on 26 October May Catch Irish Transfer Passengers Off Guard

Heathrow Terminal Switches on 26 October May Catch Irish Transfer Passengers Off Guard
British Airways will reshuffle several short-haul routes between Terminals 3 and 5 at London Heathrow when the winter timetable starts on Sunday, 26 October. The move affects thousands of Irish travellers who use Heathrow as a hub, as codeshare partner Aer Lingus operates from Terminal 2.

From Sunday, flights to Hannover, Naples, Palma de Mallorca and Riga move from T5 to T3, while services to Billund shift in the opposite direction. Most intercontinental connections remain at T5, but tight layovers may be compromised if passengers arrive at the wrong building.

Travel-management companies are advising corporate clients to update pre-trip instructions and airport-transfer vouchers. Heathrow Express notes that walking time between terminals via the underground transit can exceed 20 minutes at peak. Fast-track security will be honoured for re-screened passengers, but baggage will not be through-checked if they leave the sterile area.

The shake-up is part of BA’s wider winter capacity optimisation following aircraft shortages. While primarily a UK development, mobility teams in Ireland rank Heathrow reliability as a top concern because 65 % of transatlantic passengers still connect through the airport.
