National Day ‘Open Doors’ in Innsbruck Offers Free Shuttles and Green Mobility Showcase

National Day ‘Open Doors’ in Innsbruck Offers Free Shuttles and Green Mobility Showcase
Tyrol’s capital turned its 26 October National Day celebrations into a live mobility laboratory. The provincial government and Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) offered free return tickets on all local trains and buses to any visitor who presented a used inbound ticket at the Landhaus information desk. Five special shuttle lines ferried crowds between downtown, Innsbruck Airport’s aviation festival, the Tirol Panorama museum and other venues from 09:30 to 17:30.

The initiative, branded a certified “Green Event,” aimed to showcase low-emission transport options and reduce car traffic during one of the city’s busiest public holidays. IVB estimates that more than 22,000 journeys were taken on the dedicated shuttles, cutting an estimated 14 tonnes of CO₂ compared with private-car use.

For expatriates and cross-border commuters in the Tyrol–South Tyrol–Trentino Euroregion, the event provided a preview of the integrated ticketing system slated for launch in mid-2026. Provincial officials distributed flyers explaining how the future pass will allow seamless travel across Austrian, Italian and German networks.

Businesses in the nearby Rossau industrial zone welcomed the exposure; several hosted family days to coincide with the free transport, reinforcing corporate sustainability goals.
