Dubai’s RTA launches online auction for 300 premium vehicle plate codes
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed on 24 October that it will stage its 81st online auction for distinguished licence-plate numbers from 3 to 7 November 2025. Some 300 three-, four- and five-digit codes spanning the series A to Z will be up for grabs, with registration opening on 27 October. The announcement matters for corporate mobility teams because premium plates are a sought-after benefit in executive compensation packages and are frequently used to brand company fleets.

To enter the auction, bidders must hold an active Dubai traffic file and submit a refundable AED 5,000 security cheque plus a non-refundable AED 120 participation fee. Successful buyers have ten working days to settle the balance, which is subject to 5 % VAT. Payments up to AED 50,000 may be made in cash; higher sums require certified cheque or card and can be completed online or at Customer Happiness Centres.

RTA’s switch to an all-digital auction platform aligns with the emirate’s wider ‘paper-less government’ agenda and reduces foot traffic at licensing centres. For expatriate managers, the streamlined process removes the need for in-person power-of-attorney submissions and allows authorised PROs to bid on behalf of senior assignees.

While number-plate trading is not strictly an immigration issue, the availability of low-digit or sequence plates can influence executive relocation decisions—especially for high-net-worth individuals relocating under Golden Visa or family-office schemes.

Companies considering bids should budget for the plate’s face value plus any corporate branding costs, and should verify that fleet-insurance policies are updated once the new registration is issued.
