Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge passes 93 million passengers in seven years
Xinhua data released on the bridge’s seventh anniversary show that its Zhuhai port has processed 93.34 million passenger trips and 19.4 million vehicle crossings since opening in 2018. Traffic so far in 2025 has already topped 25 million passengers, up 17 % year-on-year, with officials projecting a full-year total above 30 million.

The 55-km sea crossing has cut road time between Hong Kong and the western Pearl River Delta from three hours to 45 minutes, fuelling integrated tourism and manufacturing supply chains in the Greater Bay Area.

For mobility planners, the sustained growth underscores the bridge’s role as a viable alternative to air and ferry links. Companies relocating staff to Zhuhai or Macao can leverage rising coach and private-car quotas, though peak-holiday congestion remains a consideration.

Authorities say further digitalisation of customs checks and an e-tolling upgrade next year will boost throughput by another 10 %.
