Italian Embassy in Santiago Announces 1 December ‘Open Day’ for Passport Issuance—Registrations Open 7 November
The Italian Embassy in Santiago, Chile, released a notice on 7 November 2025 confirming it will hold an ‘Open Day’ on 1 December to process up to 30 passport applications without prior appointment. The initiative follows complaints from Italian expatriates about a six-month wait for Prenot@Mi slots.

Eligible applicants—Italian citizens registered with AIRE and living in Chile—will be served on a first-come, first-served basis between 09:00 and 12:00. Applicants must arrive with a 4×4 cm photo and proof that their civil-status records are up to date in FAST-IT.

While the pilot addresses only a small fraction of the backlog, the embassy plans to replicate the format monthly if it proves effective. Mobility advisers relocating Italian employees to Chile can share the information with dependants who need renewals before Christmas travel.

Long-term, the Foreign Ministry is considering extending the Polis-style passport service to overseas missions, using encrypted video-link fingerprint capture tested in Buenos Aires last summer.

For now, Italian citizens abroad should monitor embassy websites and subscribe to email alerts to seize rare no-appointment opportunities.
