Warsaw Signals Re-Opening of Bobrowniki and Kuźnica Crossings with Belarus

Warsaw Signals Re-Opening of Bobrowniki and Kuźnica Crossings with Belarus
Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters on 28 October that Poland is “ready” to reopen the Bobrowniki and Kuźnica road crossings with Belarus on a trial basis in November, once coordination with Lithuania is complete. Both posts were closed on 12 September after Russian-Belarusian ‘Zapad-2025’ manoeuvres and multiple drone incursions into Polish airspace.

Re-opening would restore two of the most important commercial arteries for EU-Belarus trade in timber, potash derivatives and IT equipment, and would shorten detours that currently route lorries via Lithuanian checkpoints. Tusk stressed that the measure could be reversed “within hours” if security deteriorates.

For mobility managers the move offers relief to haulage firms forced into 300-kilometre detours since September. However, carriers should expect enhanced screening, with mobile radiation detectors and joint patrols by Border Guard and Military Police. Visa-free local-border traffic for residents of Hrodna and Brest regions remains suspended.

Lithuania has temporarily closed Vilnius Airport and several minor crossings each time balloons or drones entered its airspace, complicating regional logistics. Coordinated risk assessments by Warsaw and Vilnius will determine the exact re-opening date, now pencilled in for “mid-November”.
