Ryanair opens Birmingham–Rome Ciampino route as part of 26 October network shuffle
Ryanair will inaugurate a thrice-weekly link between Birmingham (BHX) and Rome Ciampino (CIA) on Sunday 26 October 2025, restoring a city-pair lost during the pandemic and giving central England direct access to the Italian capital’s secondary airport. Launch fares start at £32 one-way.

The service, operating Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, is timed for weekend leisure trips but also provides same-day return options for SMEs with Italian subsidiaries. It complements Ryanair’s 80-plus-route Rome portfolio and follows capacity cuts on Spanish markets as the airline redeploys aircraft to higher-yield destinations.

Italian inbound tourism boards welcome the move: Visit Lazio projects an additional 45,000 UK visitors annually, worth an estimated €19 million in direct spending. For expatriate staff, the route simplifies home-leave travel and opens a lower-cost alternative to Heathrow or Gatwick connections.

Rome Ciampino continues to promote itself as a rapid-transit gateway; average kerb-to-airside time at security was 7 minutes during the 2024 peak, an advantage that resonates with time-sensitive travellers.
