Tropical Cyclone Warning disrupts Hong Kong transport; travellers advised to reconfirm flights
The Hong Kong Observatory maintained a northeast-monsoon-related Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal during the morning of 26 October, cautioning that public-transport services ‘may be limited or suspended’ and flights ‘may be delayed or cancelled’. Airlines at Hong Kong International Airport proactively trimmed short-haul schedules, and ferry operators reported intermittent suspensions to Macau.

Event organisers—including iFX EXPO Asia and several SME trade fairs—activated contingency communications, sending SMS alerts and advising delegates to allow extra time for immigration formalities. Most long-haul flights departed with minor delays thanks to runway resilience measures introduced earlier this year.

Corporate travel managers were reminded to update traveller tracking data and ensure that assignees carry multiple-entry permits where applicable in case of diversions to Shenzhen or Guangzhou. Employers with remote-area construction sites also reviewed typhoon shelter arrangements for foreign workers.

The Observatory expects winds to ease by 27 October but warns of possible heavy showers. Travellers should monitor airline apps and the Airport Authority’s real-time dashboard.
