Wizz Air inaugurates Bucharest and Iași routes from Prague as winter season begins
Low-cost carrier Wizz Air operated its first Prague–Bucharest service at 07:15 on 26 October, followed hours later by the launch of a twice-weekly link to Iași. The flights coincide with Prague Airport’s new winter timetable and form part of the airline’s push to capture Central-Eastern European traffic flows.

Bucharest operates four times per week using 239-seat A321neo aircraft, while Iași starts at two weekly frequencies on the 180-seat A320neo. Wizz Air executives say bookings from Czech SMEs with Romanian suppliers have exceeded expectations, as has demand from Romanian tech contractors commuting to Prague.

The new routes intensify competition with flag carrier TAROM on the Prague–Bucharest sector and give Czech employers a nonstop connection to Iași’s growing IT outsourcing hub. Introductory fares start at CZK 1,199 one-way, though travel buyers should note Wizz Air’s ancillary-heavy pricing structure.

Wizz Air’s Prague base now covers nine countries and 21 routes, making it the airport’s second-largest carrier by seats after Ryanair. The airline is in discussions with Czech authorities about adding a fifth A321neo at PRG next summer, contingent on runway-slot availability and the performance of the new Romanian services.
