Austrian Airlines Switches Milan Service to City-Centre Linate as Winter Timetable Starts

Austrian Airlines Switches Milan Service to City-Centre Linate as Winter Timetable Starts
At 00:01 on 26 October, the IATA Winter 2025/26 timetable came into force and Austrian Airlines shifted all four daily Milan rotations from Malpensa (MXP) to the more central Linate (LIN) Airport. The slot swap, facilitated by parent Lufthansa Group after the acquisition of ITA Airways earlier this year, cuts ground-transfer time to downtown Milan from 50 minutes to about 20 minutes.

For corporate travellers, especially fashion and finance executives commuting between the two business centres, the change is a game-changer. Austrian’s corporate-sales team estimates that the Linate move will save passengers an average of 1.5 hours on a same-day return itinerary.

The airline is operating the route with Embraer E195s in a four-class cabin layout, offering 24 business-class seats to capture high-yield demand. Introductory fares start at €119 one-way, slightly above last winter’s MXP pricing. Travel-management companies expect the higher convenience factor to support the premium.

The switch is part of a broader winter network update that also increases Vienna–Bangkok frequencies to twice daily and introduces seasonal Dubai flights from 1 December. Austrian is adding 85 extra flights system-wide to meet rising demand and offset the partial loss of Wizz Air capacity.

Airport operator SEA Group warns that early-morning slots at Linate are heavily congested; Austrian encourages passengers to check in online and arrive early during the first weeks of the relocation.
