240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Expanded to 65 Chinese Ports

240-Hour Visa-Free Transit Expanded to 65 Chinese Ports
China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA) used the 3 November policy briefing to announce that its 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit programme will grow from 60 to 65 designated entry ports on 6 November. New gateways include Guangzhou Pazhou Ferry Terminal, Hengqin Port, Zhongshan Port, the land checkpoint on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and Hong Kong’s West Kowloon high-speed-rail station.

Travellers from 55 eligible countries who can show onward tickets to a third destination may enter through any of the 65 ports and move freely within 24 provincial-level jurisdictions for up to ten days. The NIA is also aligning local public-security reporting and hotel-registration systems to reduce administrative hurdles for visitors using the transit waiver.

For airlines and conference organisers, the extra gateways open up convenient multi-city itineraries that previously required a full visa. The inclusion of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and West Kowloon rail station is expected to channel more international passengers through Hong Kong before they cross into mainland Greater Bay Area cities for trade fairs or tech-park visits.

Corporate mobility teams should update travel guidance and ensure that qualifying passengers carry printed or digital proof of onward travel. The 240-hour clock starts at 00:00 the day *after* arrival, giving travellers effectively up to 11 calendar days in China if flights are timed correctly.
