Finnish Embassy in Dar es Salaam closed on 29 October for Tanzanian election day, delaying visa and permit services
The Embassy of Finland in Tanzania has confirmed that it will be closed today, 29 October 2025, because of the country’s presidential and parliamentary elections. All in-person consular, visa and residence-permit appointments have been cancelled; applicants will need to reschedule through the VFS Global system or the embassy’s email service. The mission advises travellers requiring emergency documents to contact the Foreign Ministry’s 24/7 helpline in Helsinki.

While a single-day closure may seem minor, it comes during the peak filing period for students and seasonal workers planning to start programmes in Finland in January. Visa agents in Dar es Salaam say appointment availability was already constrained after the embassy reduced public-service hours this summer. Applicants with tight travel deadlines could face knock-on delays of up to two weeks.

Finnish employers recruiting talent from East Africa should verify that onboarding timelines allow for the embassy’s revised schedule. Where possible, companies may want to route applications through Finland’s embassies in Nairobi or Addis Ababa, both of which remain open this week. The closure also serves as a reminder to build local public-holiday calendars into mobility planning, particularly in countries where polling days are declared national holidays at short notice.

The embassy will reopen on Friday, 31 October, under normal hours. Consular officials told the Finland Abroad portal that all cancelled appointments will receive priority re-booking slots next week.
