Foz do Iguaçu secures daily LATAM link to Brasília, boosting waterfall tourism and federal access
Paraná’s iconic waterfall city gained a strategic air bridge on 27 October as LATAM Airlines began daily A320/A321 operations between Foz do Iguaçu (IGU) and Brasília (BSB). Flights leave IGU at 17:15, arriving in the federal capital two hours later; the northbound leg departs BSB at 08:25. The schedule enables same-day connections to LATAM’s North and Northeast network and provides policymakers with direct access to one of Brazil’s top international gateways.

Governor Ratinho Junior called the route “essential for integrating tourism with national decision-making,” noting that nearly 1.9 million visitors—half of them foreigners—passed through Iguaçu National Park in 2024. Direct service removes the need for time-consuming stops in São Paulo or Curitiba, a boon to tour operators selling high-end packages that combine the falls with Amazon or Pantanal extensions.

Corporate mobility teams headquartered in Brasília also benefit. Itaipu Binacional, whose headquarters straddle Paraná and Paraguay, can now send engineers to federal regulatory meetings without overnight stays, while travel-policy analysts expect government per-diem savings of up to 20 %.

From an aviation-strategy standpoint, the IGU-BSB link helps LATAM consolidate its share in the South-North corridor after rival GOL shifted capacity toward leisure trunk routes. ANAC granted the slot pair after Brasília’s new midfield concourse opened in September, freeing gates for point-to-point growth.

Local authorities intend to capitalize by fast-tracking a customs expansion at IGU to lure additional South American routes ahead of the 2026 Inter-American Development Bank annual meeting scheduled for Foz do Iguaçu.
