‘Career Compass’ workshops to steer newcomers through South Australia’s labour market

‘Career Compass’ workshops to steer newcomers through South Australia’s labour market
Also launched on 22 October, the state government’s ‘Career Compass’ series targets migrants who have been in South Australia fewer than 18 months and are still seeking work commensurate with their qualifications. The free workshops include CV clinics, credential-recognition advice and one-on-one mentoring from industry volunteers in ICT, engineering and health.

Sessions will run monthly at the Adelaide CBD migration hub with an online stream for regional participants. Employers facing talent shortages can sponsor mock-interview booths, gaining early access to skilled candidates.

For global mobility leads, the program offers an opportunity to support accompanying spouses who often struggle to re-enter the workforce—an issue cited as a top reason for premature assignment failure.

Program organisers report that 65 % of last year’s pilot cohort secured professional roles within three months, double the national average for migrant job seekers. Mobility managers should publicise the resource in relocation packs and consider partnering as corporate mentors.
